Webber admits 2011 title a 'huge ask'

Mark Webber has admitted it will be a "huge ask" to overhaul Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel in the drivers' standings and win the 2011 world championship.

Webber is currently Vettel's closest rival with a gap of 85 points separating the pair. His results have improved of late, but he has only finished ahead of his team-mate on one occasion this year - at the German Grand Prix - and Red Bull has faced stiffer competition from McLaren and Ferrari at the last five races.

"At this point in the championship, running second, there is only one place you can go further and that's going ahead of Sebastian," he said. "That is a huge ask at the moment, obviously he's driving very well, very consistently and amassed an immense amount of points early in the championship.

"It hasn't been as straight forward and easy for him in the last [few] races because it's been more competitive and it's tightened up a little bit. But the championship is over a whole season and those points he's got in the bank are his to keep."

Webber admitted that he would need Vettel to have some "misfortune" if he had any hope of reining him in while driving equal machinery.

"I'm clearly looking to keep my second place in the championship and if not - if there is any misfortune for Seb - obviously I'll be greatly trying to tackle that if I can," he added. "But in general you just have to take each race as it comes, let the points will look after themselves and make sure you keep your regrets to a minimum at each race and do your absolute best."
