Sergio “Checo” Pérez finishes the Hungarian GP 15th
Monday, 1 de August de 2011
Budapest, July 31, 2011 – In a quite difficult race due to the harsh weather condition, the Mexican driver, Sergio “Checo” Pérez finished the 11th round of the F1 World Championship in the 15th position and now will focus in his training for Spa-Francorchamps, with a four week recess.
Checo, had been tenth on the grid, row five but struggled at the beginning and lost ten places, down to place 19, from where the Sauber F1 Team driver overtook several positions afterwards.
After lap 13, his first pit stop to change tires Checo was in P20 and slowly made his way through and in lap 28 he was already P16, which made suppose he could overtake much more.
However, in lap 32 Checo was penalized with a drive through, entering the pitlane, drive through it while obeying its speed limit ignoring a yellow flag, which complicated the race even more for him, who had already done his two pitstops (his second stop had been in lap 26).
Nevertheless Sergio never gave up and kept on fighting, finishing the race in P15 after he had had a tough struggle with Pastor Maldonado for that position.
After this, the 11th round of F1 there will be a 4-week recess before Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium GP on August 27 and 28.
“I am deeply disappointed. After qualifying, which was good, I expected a lot more from the race. It had already started to go wrong on lap one. I had no grip at all and hardly managed to keep the car on track. I went wide at one corner and lost a lot of positions. I actually dropped back from 10th on the grid to 20th. At that time I was slower than the slowest cars and I hope we find the reason why this was so extreme. The drive through penalty just made matters worse later. I overtook Heikki Kovalainen because he was braking very late and there were yellow flags”, commented Checo.
About the summer recess the Mexican driver said:
“I’m very much excited of having some time to go back to Mexico, I haven’t seen my family and friends and will enjoy being with them. I still don’t have any definite plans but I’ll be in Puerto Vallarta a few day, to go to the beach and relax. In general vacation for me is also an opportunity to work out and do some analysis and reflection of my performance and development. After the summer vacation we’ll have a quite busy period getting everything ready for the next races”, finished Checo.
