GT Sprint – The Edil Cris F430 GTC leads the championship. AF Corse consolidates in GTS3
Mugello, (Scarperia) 25 September – On the same card as the Italian Ferrari Challenge, the Mugello circuit also hosted the penultimate round of the International GT Sprint Championship. Race 1 went to Matteo Cressoni who was fastest in qualifying yesterday in the Racing Team Edil Cris F430 GTC. His third win of the season sees him shoot into the lead of the overall classification. Keeping the lead from the start, Cressoni never put a foot wrong, staying in front to the chequered flag. Behind him there was plenty of drama with two collisions shortly after the start, which brought out the Safety Car. When the race restarted, the positions remained unchanged, with Cressoni pulling away from Giuseppe Cirò (F430 GTC-AF Corse) followed by the 458 Italia GT3 di Fabio Mancini (AF Corse) which had to give best to the F430 GTC of Giacomo Barri (Vittoria Competizioni), third at the flag. There was a noteworthy performance from Andrea Palma who held on to fifth from start to finish in the Vittoria Competizioni F430 GTC.
In Race 2 Cressoni consolidated his title lead with another win, beating Giacomo Barri at the wheel of the F430 GTC run by Vittoria Competizioni and the 458 Italia GT3 AF Corse, in the hands of Niki Cadei, who still leads in the GTS3. Just off the podium was the F430 GTC of Massimiliano Mugelli (Vittoria Competizioni) and the other of Gaetano Ardagna Perez (AF Corse), who finished fourth and fifth respectively.
The GT Sprint series is back in action at Vallelunga over the weekend of 9 October, again on the same card as the Italian Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli.
