Specialized and McLaren Applied Technologies Extend Partnership for Breakthrough Cycling Technology
July was a good month for McLaren. After all, in four short weeks we won three races.
Three? That’s right – while Vodafone McLaren Mercedes was busy taking grand prix victories in Germany and Hungary, British cycling legend Mark Cavendish won the Tour de France’s prestigious green points jersey riding the S-Works + McLaren Venge road bike.
Cavendish’s five stage wins were the perfect validation of US bike manufacturer Specialized and McLaren Applied Technologies’ (MAT) intent at the start of their joint bicycle project; namely, to create the fastest road racing bike on the planet.
Hot on the heels of the Venge’s success throughout Europe (it also won on its first competitive outing in the prestigious Milan-San Remo one-day race), Specialized and MAT have entered into a new long-term partnership to devise and create further products that will benefit from the unique levels of technical expertise generated by each party.
In short, that means we’re likely to see more state-of-the-art bicycles and equipment emerge from the partnership.
As both staff and visitors will attest, there’s no shortage of interest in our two-wheeled projects: the S-Works + McLaren Venge displayed on the McLaren Technology Centre boulevard attracts an equal amount of attention as the fleet of race- and championship-winning grand prix machinery that sit beside it. And that’s indicative of the passion for cycling and high-end engineering that’s shared by all within the hallways of the MTC.
