FDA - Brandon Maisano gets a taste of the GP3 Series at the Barcelona circuit

The most important European junior series have recently come to the end of their long season. For the teams and drivers however, it is still not holiday time, given that all the various categories have planned an extensive series of test days to evaluate various team/driver combinations for the 2012 season.

As part of this collective test, Brandon Maisano got the change to try a GP3 car for the very first time. The Barcelona track this week staged a two day test, in which Brandon took to the track in one of the three Dallara-Renaults run by the Jenzer team.

“The experience was even better than expected,” commented Maisano. “I did not know what my approach would be with a car I had never driven and one fitted with a turbo engine. But it all came naturally and especially in the session run in the wet, I felt very much at ease, as could be seen from the lap times where I was always in the top three. Over the two days of testing, I made a few mistakes linked to my lack of experience and some down to the fact I did not know much about the Pirelli tyres used in GP3. Overall, the test was very constructive and whatever I end up doing in 2012, I will always have good memories of this test.”

The head of the FDA, Luca Baldisserri, who this week has been planning next year’s race season, followed the Maisano test closely: “Brandon adopted a good approach to a car he did not know and from many points of view he proved to be competitive at an outright level. It is understandable, given how young he is that there are some aspects on which Brandon still has work to do, but the tests are there precisely to analyse and correct the faults of youngsters. The lap times looked very good, in line with that of many drivers who have the benefit of more experience in the category, confirming his qualities at a single-seater that was new to him.”
