First reactions

There’s not a lot of time for it to sink in, I haven’t had a lot of sleep.

It was a fantastic day for us, and difficult to put it in words. When we crossed the start-finish line it was a big relief. We had a fantastic nigh and my voice is still a bit crap because we were doing karaoke. We can’t have too much celebration here because we continue straight on to Korea. This title is as confusing as the first title - it will take time for it to sink in.

On comparing both titles:

You can’t compare them. The first title will always remain something special, like the first victory in F1 in Monza; I can’t say this was better than that. This year we led all the way through and we will still continue, with four more races to go, to give the best we can.

On his ability to keep feed on ground:

You are the person you are - how you grew up - it depends on the people around you. There might be temptation to change, but everything that has to fly has to come down. Last night was a bit of flying...people around you speaking highly of you, but I don’t like this much. I am very fortunate that I do something that so many people follow. Like the moment just before you put helmet on with all the fans here in Japan before the race; for us drivers, life doesn’t get better than this. You have to enjoy the moment, as well as the hard work.

On best wins

Winning is always special. Monaco was very special; winning on a street circuit is a different challenge, but winning in Spa meant a lot too. Germany was the only race where i wasn’t on podium so we have another chance next year. We had races where things didn’t come together but we still managed a strong finish on the podium. It’s more important to get as good a result as possible to collect the points

On the championship

Last year we didn’t know we had won it until the end. This year we knew. In a way the feeling at Abu Dhabi was similar, I knew we could make it. In Singapore I was hoping to make the championship certain, but then I got the radio call saying we were still one point missing. So here I didn’t think about championship. I was busy with other things, tyres etc. It’s best not to think about championship, when you race you focus on the race, Now it’s a big relief to make the switch to - we have done it. This takes time....

On making history and breaking records

I do like the history of F1 so it’s a weird feeling – there are some big names up there. Winning the championship was the ultimate target of my life. Having achieved it again - that means something for the books, but when you face yourself in mirror, seeing yourself in a way close to these guys...I just see myself as usual,
