The Buddh International Circuit has had its first taste of F1 cars running on its tarmac, with Free Practice 1 taking place under smoggy skies. Sébastien Buemi had a trouble-free morning, ending up ninth fastest and doing 24 laps, while Jaime unfortunately went backwards into the tyre barrier at Turn 9. We will have to wait until the car’s back in the garage to see how bad the damage is, but it’s bound to involve plenty of work before FP2 this afternoon.

Lewis Hamilton was fastest for McLaren, followed by the Red Bull duo of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, with fourth best time set by Jenson Button in the other McLaren. The Mercedes pairing of Schumacher and Rosberg complete the top six. Drivers did not get the full 90 minutes of track time, because after checking out track conditions during a support race practice session, a dog decided to have another look at the track while the F1 cars were in action, which called for the red flag to be waved.
