Indian iWitness: Thursday

It’s been just two years since India got the go-ahead to stage an F1 race, so the organisers have done a phenomenal job to get the track finished on time. In fact, they’ve done such a good job that word has got out… When our staff arrived at the Buddh International Circuit on Monday they found a family living in our hospitality area!
The teams are working hard to avoid doses of ‘Delhi Belly’. All of the food eaten at the racetrack is being washed and cooked in mineral water and there are bottles of handwash available in all of its hospitality areas. But AT&T Williams has gone even further: the team sent an advance party to our hotel and told them to eat everything on the menu. When they all emerged unscathed, it was deemed good enough for the race team to stay in!
There have been a few teething problems since arriving at the track, not least for Force India, whose forklift truck got stuck in the recently-laid concrete outside their pit garage! Luckily, the cars weigh only 640kg.
This is Pastor Maldonado’s first trip to India, so he’s taken the opportunity to see one of the country’s most famous sights. On Wednesday he drove 200kms to the Taj Mahal, where he bumped into world champion Sebastian Vettel. It’s a well-trodden path…
Kimi Raikkonen might not have raced in F1 for a couple of years, but no-one has told the Indian motorbike riders. Hundreds of Kimi helmet designs have been spotted around the streets of Delhi. Why? Only they know!
