Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India, October 30, 2011 – Excellent race for Sergio “Checo” Pérez in the first Indian Grand Prix. Starting in P20 he could overtake 10 positions and finished in the top 10, adding the last point of the race in the 17th round of the F1 World Championship 2011.
The Sauber F1 Team driver had an excellent performance and his team’s strategy for the soft compounds paid off and entered the points zone in this penultimate race of the F1 season.
Checo, in his Sauber C30-Ferrari #17 had an excellent start in which he could overtake three positions but in this first lap he pitted and changed his hard compounds that were obligatory for the race tires to his soft compounds. Checo went back to the track in P20 and from there he had to overtake until he got to the points zone.
Besides the point Checo could achieve, the Sauber F1 Team gets to seventh place in the constructor’s championship with Toro Rosso, with 41 points for both. Sergio was who could overtake more position than any other in this grand prix.
“I’m satisfied and very happy to have scored that point today for the team. Sutil was really fast, and I couldn’t catch him. But fortunately I Could overtake Viyaly Petrov”. Mentioned “Checo”, who valued the teams strategy.

Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India, 30 de octubre del 2011.- Estupenda carrera ha realizado el mexicano Sergio “Checo” Pérez en el Gran Premio inaugural de India, luego de largar desde el lugar 20, remontar 10 posiciones y cerrar en el top-10, capturando el último punto de la competencia, en la decimoséptima fecha del Campeonato del Mundo de F1 2011.
El piloto de Sauber F1 Team tuvo un gran rendimiento y aprovechó además la buena estrategia planteada por su equipo que apostó por el compuesto suave para poder acceder a la zona de los puntos en esta antepenúltima carrera del año de la F1.
Checo, a bordo del Sauber C30-Ferrari #17, tuvo una buena largada, en la que consiguió avanzar tres posiciones, pero en la misma primera vuelta se fue a pits para montar los neumáticos suaves, luego de haber largado con los duros y que fueron obligatorios en la carrera. Así, Checo se reincorporaba a la pista en la P20 y desde ahí el mexicano inició una remontada que terminó en la zona de los puntos.
Además, con ese punto alcanzado por Checo, el Sauber F1 Team empata el séptimo puesto en el Campeonato de Constructores con el Toro Rosso, en los 41 puntos para ambos; en tanto que el piloto mexicano ha sido quien más posiciones logró avanzar en este gran premio.
“Estoy contento por todo el equipo. Este punto me sabe a mucho después de arrancar en el sitio 20. La verdad es que la velocidad de Sutil fue increíble y no lo pude alcanzar, pero sí pude defenderme de Vitaly Petrov”, dijo Checo, que valoró la audaz estrategia del equipo.
