De la Rosa keen to see HRT use Toyota chassis
Pedro de la Rosa is keeping a close eye on HRT's plans for next year, reinforcing speculation that he is close to securing a drive with the team in 2011.
After losing his Sauber race seat to Nick Heidfeld, he has remained in the fray for a 2011 drive by taking on the Pirelli tyre testing role. He told Spanish media that he is now watching with interest as HRT develops its "sporting" project ahead of next year and said he would be open to a return to F1 with the team.
"I would be thrilled, but before I say anything else their sporting project needs to be clear," de la Rosa said. "From there we can begin to move but there is no rush."
It is still not clear how HRT will source its 2011 chassis, with rumours that it is talking with Toyota about using its unraced 2010 car or possibly going it alone. De la Rosa said he is talking with team officials "every week" and said he would be keen to see them take the Toyota route.
"Clearly after agreeing [an engine and gearbox supply] with Cosworth and Williams, if the agreement with Toyota also materialises then it will demonstrate they want to do things well and in a serious way."
De la Rosa said his 'plan B' for 2011 is a test driving role.
