Red Bull extends Renault engine deal
Red Bull will continue to use Renault engines for another two seasons after announcing at the Brazilian Grand Prix that it has decided to extend its contract.
Red Bull has used Renault engines since 2007 after switching from a Ferrari deal that was transferred to Toro Rosso. The new contract will see greater exposure of the Renault brand on the car and the top of the drivers' visors from the Brazilian Grand Prix onwards.
"We're pleased to announce this extension," said Red Bull team principal Christian Horner. "We have always enjoyed a very straightforward relationship with Renault and they have supported us extremely fairly during the past four seasons, contributing to our thirteen grand prix victories so far.
"The relationship continues to evolve and we look forward to working with them during our 2011 Formula One World Championship campaign."
The deal will supply Red Bull with engines through to 2013 when team owner Dietrich Mateschitz has hinted that the drinks company might go it alone under the planned new regulations.
"We're staying with Renault," he told the Kleine Zeitung newspaper. "But we are on stand-by for an interesting partnership. And even the idea of developing our own engine, I think, is no longer so absurd."
