Ang Ka Luang Nature Trail
Doi Inthanon National Park, Chiang Mai
One of the Kingdom's most popular, the nature trail at Ang Ka Luang allows you to enjoy the moss- and fern-covered trees in a patch of evergreen forest near the 2,565-metre summit of Doi Inthanon, Thailand's tallest mountain.
This high-altitude habitat is also home to many species of animals, including resident and migratory birds that can be spotted during the cool season.
How to get there
From Chom Thong, 58km south of Chiang Mai, there is a regular songthaeo mini-bus service that runs between Wat Phra That Si Chom Thong and the park's headquarters. From the HQ, you can either hire a pickup truck or hitchhike to the summit and the nature trail.
Food and accommodation
Camping areas, bungalows and a canteen are available at the park HQ. If you plan to go there during long weekends, make sure you book well in advance.
