GreenBkk Auto | Mitsu's Ecocar

Mitsu's Ecocar

All-new small car will make its first appearance at March's Geneva motor show

After performing the stone-laying ceremony for its new factory in Laem Chabang, Chon Buri, Mitsubishi has revealed two sketches of the Ecocar to be made at its third Thai plant.

Mitsubishi says that the yet-to-be-named small car will come with 1.0- and 1.2-litre engines, although Motoring has earlier heard that hybrid and full electric variants will eventually follow in the future.

There's also likelihood that Mitsu's Ecocar will form the replacement of the B-segment Colt hatchback, which has never made it to Thai shores. It will rival the Nissan March and Honda's pending Brio hatchback.

Since Mitsubishi and PSA Group are now actively collaborating in various car segments to improve economies of scales, the next-generation Citroen C2 and Peugeot 208 could share many technologies with the Mitsubishi Ecocar.

The all-electric i-MiEV, for instance, donates its platform, basic body and electric/battery components to the Citroen C-Zero and Peugeot Ion.
