NEW comers
Citroen DS3
- THE SPECS: Yontrakit Automobiles has launched the funky model range of Citroen known as DS. The first model to go on sale is the DS3 which comes with a 120hp 1.6-litre petrol engine and four-speed automatic priced at B1.49m.
- WE THINK: Citroen has done its home work and really priced the DS3 aggressively against Mini _ even the cheapest and least powerful One (98hp) costs B500k more.
- OR TRY THIS: The Fiat 500 available officially with a 100hp 1.4-litre engine priced from B1.69m.
Peugeot RCZ
- THE SPECS: The Audi TT-wannabe is now available officially through European Automobiles. The Peugeot RCZ coup? comes with either a 200hp 1.6-litre turbo-petrol/six-speed manual gearbox or 156hp 1.6-litre petrol/four-speed automatic transmission combination priced at B3.1m and B2.95m respectively.
- WE THINK: Another French import to shame the Audi TT in terms of price. Unfortunately, the 200hp version of the RCZ doesn't have an automatic option.
- OR TRY THIS: The less stylish but better value VW Scirocco with 200hp performance, six-speed dual-clutch automatic and B2.46m price tag.
Proton Saga
- THE SPECS: Malaysia's national car brand has unveiled its new entry-level saloon: the Saga based on the Savvy hatchback. The four-door Saga comes with a 95hp 1.3-litre petrol engine with either five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission with prices rang ing from B399,000-464,000.
- WE THINK: Saloon versions of Ecocar from big-time players have yet to emerge, so the Saga is the choice for now.
- OR TRY THIS: Wait till March next year for the four-door version of the Nissan March.
Ssangyong Korando
- THE SPECS: Ssangyong's new SUV baby is being launched with a 175hp 2.0-litre turbo-diesel and six-speed automatic gearbox. The Korando crossover is priced from B1.79m via Ssangyong Motors Thailand.
- WE THINK: A smaller crossover to the Kyron makes sense for many, but the Korando lacks the bold styling of the Actyon.
- OR TRY THIS: The Hyundai Tucson which comes with a 166hp 2.0-litre petrol engine, six-speed automatic and B1.791-1.895m price range.
Subaru Legacy Outback
- THE SPECS: Motor Image Subaru Thailand has added a third body style to the Legacy model lineup: the Outback complementing the estate and saloon derivatives. The jacked-up Legacy gets a 167hp 2.5-litre flat-four petrol engine, CVT automatic, four-wheel drive and a B2.54m sticker price.
- WE THINK: If you are looking for higher ground clearance, then the Outback could be a better bet than the regular Legacy estate.
- OR TRY THIS: The VW Tiguan armed with a 140hp 2.0-litre turbo-diesel and six-speed auto which comes with a price tag of B2.96m.
