'Mosley to blame for new teams' troubles'

Bernie Ecclestone believes that former FIA chief Max Mosley is responsible for the poor performance of the three new teams that entered F1 this year.

None of the three new teams - Lotus, Hispania and Virgin - managed to score a point during the 19 race season, with Heikki Kovalainen's 12th place in Japan the highest finish recorded between the teams.

While only last month Ecclestone told the Financial Times that: "they do nothing for us, they are an embarrassment. We need to get rid of a few of those cripples," he has now laid blame for the situation not at the door of the teams but rather that of Mosley.

"As for the new teams, their problems weren't their fault in all fairness," the Briton wrote in the foreword to The Official Formula 1 Season Review 2010.

"It was really Max Mosley's fault, telling them they could come in and be contenders for £30 million - but they're here now and, provided they don't walk around with begging bowls, it's good to have them."

Ecclestone showed his support for Mosley's successor, Jean Todt, by saying: "Jean is a completely different animal to Max.

"In fairness, he's left F1 to get on with it, which is good," he added.
