Nicolas Costa joins Ferrari Driver Academy

Brazil’s Nicolas Costa will become a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, after winning the first-ever Formula Future Fiat championship. Ferrari’s talent programme was devised by the Italian team to find and support young drivers from around the world, with the eventual aim of helping them into Formula One racing.

“All drivers would love to drive a Ferrari and I still cannot believe what has happened,” exclaimed Costa after his success. “Being able to count on the backing of such a professional team is a dream come true.”

The 19 year-old won the Formula Future Fiat title by one point from rival Francisco Alfaya at Brazil’s Santa Cruz do Sol international circuit last weekend. The championship is backed by Ferrari race driver - and fellow Brazilian - Felipe Massa.

One member of the driver academy, Jules Bianchi, was recently confirmed as a Ferrari test driver for the 2011 season.
