Domenicali: “Alonso and Massa, two winning drivers”
Madonna di Campiglio, 12 January –This is the second year that the Ferrari line-up is made up Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa and Stefano Domenicali has every faith in his drivers. “Fernando showed, especially in the second half of the season, that he is an extraordinary talent, but that was hardly a surprise and we start from that baseline again this year,” said Domenicali. “What was very pleasing was seeing how quickly he integrated himself with our team and the added value this brought was exceptional. Felipe had a difficult season, but I am totally convinced that he will know how to react in just the right way, as he capable of doing. In fact, he has often been under pressure and in these situations, he has delivered in a way that surprised many people. He is a total professional, who has grown here with us and we can count on him: I expect him to be motivated to the maximum. We want to have two strong drivers capable of winning: that is what you need if you aspire to winning both titles. As usual there is no hierarchy at the start of the season as that is determined by what happens on track.”
One journalist, evidently keen not to miss the slightest opportunity to bring up the subject of team orders yet again asked Domenicali if, with hindsight, the decision taken at Hockenheim had been the right one. “It has to be said that I don’t like this line of reasoning, because it is one thing to make a decision on the spur of the moment and another to do so with hindsight, having taken stock of the situation. Having said that, I think that in Germany, the team – which means the management, the engineers and the drivers – made the best choice. I am pleased to see that, in the end, the ban on team orders was repealed: they have always existed and there has just been a clarification aimed at providing greater transparency. If something prejudicial should happen, there is article 151 of the Sporting Regulations to right any wrongs, as there has always been.”

Madonna di Campiglio, 12 gennaio – Questo è il secondo anno della coppia ferrarista formata da Fernando Alonso e Felipe Massa e Stefano Domenicali ha grande fiducia nei suoi piloti. “Fernando ha dimostrato, soprattutto nella seconda parte dell’anno, il suo straordinario talento ma questa non è stata una sorpresa e da questa base ripartiremo nella nuova stagione” – ha detto Domenicali – “Quello che ci ha fatto grande piacere è stato vedere con quale velocità si sia integrato nella nostra squadra: il valore aggiunto che ci ha dato è stato eccezionale. Felipe ha avuto una stagione difficile ma sono straconvinto che saprà reagire nella migliore maniera, come sa fare lui. Del resto, è sempre stato sotto esame e ha sempre tirato fuori in queste circostanze delle energie che in tanti non gli attribuivano. E’ un grande professionista che è cresciuto insieme a noi e noi contiamo su di lui: me lo aspetto motivato al massimo. Noi vogliamo avere due piloti forti e vincenti: questa è la condizione per poter aspirare alla conquista di entrambi i titoli. Come sempre, non ci sono gerarchie ad inizio stagione: a determinarla sarà la pista.”
Qualcuno, tanto per non farsi sfuggire l’ennesima opportunità di riparlare di ordini di squadra, ha chiesto a Domenicali se, a posteriori, la scelta di Hockenheim era stata giusta: “Va premesso che non amo fare questo tipo di ragionamenti perché un conto è decidere sul momento, un altro è giudicare una scelta col senno di poi, a bocce ferme. Detto questo, credo che in Germania la squadra – intesa come management, tecnici e piloti – abbia compiuto la scelta migliore. Mi fa piacere vedere che, alla fine, sia stato abrogato il divieto di dare ordini di squadra: sono sempre esistiti ed è stata fatta solamente chiarezza andando nell’ottica di una maggior trasparenza. Se dovesse accadere qualcosa di pregiudizievole, ci sarebbe sempre l’articolo 151 del Regolamento Sportivo per porvi rimedio, come c’è sempre stato.”
