FOM confirms HD coverage for 2011 season

Formula One will be broadcast in 'native' HD for the first time ever, FOM have confirmed after investing heavily in new technology.

This comes after Germany's SKY confirmed it would broadcast the entire season in full HD.

Several other TV channels, including Australia's ONE and Brazil's Globo, have also confirmed that they too will broadcast in HD.

UK viewers will likely receive a HD feed from the BBC, with an annoucement expected in the next few weeks.

"We are yet to announce our plans for the 2011 F1 season but will be doing so in due course," a spokesperson for the corporation told The F1 Times.

Trackside cameras will operate at full 1080i resolution, whilst, due to the complxity, on-board cameras will continue to be standard definition for the time being.
