FOM confirms it's going HD in 2011

Watching Formula One will get even better in 2011 after Formula One Management confirmed that all broadcasters will receive a High Definition feed this year.

HD broadcasts topped the wish list of many fans during a 2010 FOTA survey and the sport's rights holders have paid close attention to their requests.

The official Formula One website announced on Wednesday that FOM will provide HD feeds.

'From the season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix in March, coverage of all 20 rounds - including all practice sessions and support events - will be originated in HD, with the international feed then offered throughout the world at a data rate of 42 Megabits/second (MPEG-2),' the statement said.

'A number of major broadcasters have already confirmed that they plan to show 2011 races in HD, with many other channels expected to follow suit before the season gets underway.'

On Tuesday, Sky Germany became the first broadcaster to reveal they will broadcast in HD this year.

The BBC is yet to announce if they will be broadcasting in HD in 2011.

"Further details about BBC plans for 2011 will be released in due course," a statement from the public broadcaster said.
