Ferrari celebrate 150 years of Italian unification in new car name

With Italy and history intrinsic elements of Ferrari’s magical makeup, it should come as no surprise that the Italian team would want to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Italian unification in a special way this season. And ahead of the launch of their new car later this week, the team have announced the 2011 challenger will be called the F150 to mark the event.

“Ferrari is an expression of Italian excellence, talent and creativity,” said Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo. “All the men and women who put so much effort and passion into their work at Maranello share the pride and responsibility of representing our country around the world and it is in this spirit that we chose to dedicate this car to an event that is so important for the whole of Italy.”

In advance of their public announcement, Ferrari revealed the name to Giorgio Napolitano, the current president of the Italian Republic. Napolitano thanked the team and wished them well for the forthcoming Formula One season. Ferrari will unveil the F150 at their Maranello factory on Friday.
