Timeline: Google's trek from startup to tech titan

(Reuters) - Google Inc said co-founder Larry Pagewill replace Eric Schmidt in April as chief executive of the world's No. 1 search engine company.

Here are some milestones in Google's history:

1995 - Co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin meet at Stanford University.

1998 - Google files for incorporation in California on September 4.

1999 - Google's first press release announces a $25 million round of investment from Sequoia Capital and Kleiner Perkins.

2000 - Google launches keyword advertising sales system AdWords with 350 customers.

2001 - Schmidt is named chief executive and chairman of the board of directors.

2004 - Initial public offering of roughly 19.6 million shares at an opening price of $85 per share.

2006 - Google buys online video service YouTube.

2007 - Google tops $700 per share.

2008 - Indexing system for processing links indicates Google searches 1 trillion unique URLs.

2010 - First Google Super Bowl ad.

2011 - Page becomes CEO, Schmidt stays as executive chairman
