World Car of the Year – the nominees

Organizers of World Car of the Year contest announced the ten nominees who will fight for the supreme title in 2011. In the battle for the grand prize enter Audi A1, Audi A8, BMW 5 Series, BMW X3, Jaguar XJ, Jeep Grand Cherokee, Mercedes AMG SLS, Nissan Leaf, Porsche Cayenne and Volvo S60/V60.


Dazzling is the complete absence of the Volkswagen brand, who has won the prize last year by Polo, but also the lack of nominees of the Chevrolet Volt, the model that won North American Car of the Year award three weeks ago. On the other hand, the surprise is nominated Jeep Grand Cherokee, a presence than unexpected.











In addition to the main category of voting, World Car of the Year jury will announce the finalists for other three secondary categories.

Nominees in the category World Performance Car of the Year are the Aston Martin Rapide, Audi RS5, Cadillac CTS-V Coupe, Ferrari 458 Italia, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera, Mercedes S63 AMG, CL 63 AMG and SLS AMG, Porsche 911 GT2 RS, Porsche 911 Turbo and Renault Megane RS.

Nominees in the category World Car Design of the Year are the Aston Martin Rapide, Audi A7, Citroen DS3, Ferrari 458 Italia, Honda CR-Z, Kia Sportage and Nissan Juke.

Nominees in the category World Green Car of the Year are BMW 320 EfficientDynamics, Chevrolet Volt, Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, Mercedes B-Klasse F-Cell, Nissan Leaf and Smart Fortwo ED.

From the nominee lists of will be selected three finalists, whom will be announced in March at the Geneva Motor Show. The winners for the four awards will be announced on April 21st at New York Auto Show.
