Suvarnabhumi expects 2.3 million passengers during the Chinese New Year

Suvarnabhumi Airport becomes bustling with passengers travelling during the Chinese New Year. It is expected that there would be more than 180,000 passengers a day travelling in and out of the airport during this festive season.

According to Suvarnbhumi Airport Spokesperson Wilaiwan Natwilai, the expected number of passengers at the airport during the Chinese New Year from February 1st to 13th, 2011 is around 2.3 million with an average of 180,000 passengers per day, an increase of 440,000 passengers or 23% from last year, making it the period with the highest passenger traffic in the airport’s history.

The spokesperson said that 78% of the estimated number of passengers is international passengers, mostly from the Republic of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Since the numbers of passengers from these countries are likely to increase not only in this period but also all year long, Suvarnabhumi Airport has arranged services to facilitate these groups of passengers including the Chinese signage in addition to the English and Thai, the Chinese information brochures and officers who speak Chinese to encourage more passengers to come to Thailand.

Of the additional 467 standard and chartered flights, 65% are the flights between the Suvarnabhumi Airport and the Republic of China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
