FDA - Bianchi’s debut starts on the front row
Maranello, 10 February – With two days to go to the end of the final pre-season test which saw him set a new track record (1.35.940,) Jules Bianchi was back in action today at the Yas Marina circuit, taking part in qualifying for the first round of the GP2 Asia Series. The event in Abu Dhabi marks the start of the fourth year of this series, a winter championship run over three rounds, as a prelude to the GP2 series that gets underway in Istanbul over the weekend of 8 May. 26 cars take part in the two races; one tomorrow at 16.40 and the other on Saturday at 16.50 local time.
Third in free practice this morning, the Frenchman driving for the Lotus Art team and one of the young hopefuls of the Ferrari Driver Academy, with additional responsibilities as a development driver for the Ferrari Formula 1 team, ended qualifying in second place with a 1.36.448, which will see him start Race 1 from the front row, alongside poleman Romain Grosjean (1.36.041) who drives one of the two DAMS team cars. Behind them come Air Asia’s Davide Valsecchi (1.36.501) and Dani Clos of Racing Engineering (1.36.614.) “Today went well, even if towards the end, traffic prevented me from improving my time,” commented Jules once the session was over. “The car is going very well and thanks to the day of testing I know have a good knowledge of the track. Who knows what will happen tomorrow, because we don’t yet know how the new Pirellis will go in the race.”
Per Bianchi un debutto in prima fila
Maranello, 10 febbraio - A due giorni dalla conclusione dell'ultimo test pre-stagionale che lo ha visto siglare il nuovo record della pista (1.35.940), oggi Jules Bianchi è nuovamente entrato in azione sul circuito arabo di Yas Marina per disputare le prove ufficiali del primo appuntamento con la GP2 Asia Series. La tappa di Abu Dhabi inaugura la quarta stagione della serie asiatica, campionato invernale articolato in tre round di supporto alla serie cadetta GP2, al via a Istanbul nel fine settimana dell’8 maggio. Ventisei le vetture iscritte al doppio turno agonistico in programma domani alle 16.40 e sabato alle 16.50 (ora locale).
Terzo nelle libere disputate al mattino, il pilota francese schierato dal team Lotus Art, giovane talento della Ferrari Driver Academy a disposizione della Scuderia di Maranello per le attività sportive legate allo sviluppo della vettura, ha concluso il turno di qualifica con il secondo miglior crono (1.36.448): grazie a questo risultato Bianchi domani scatterà dalla prima fila in Gara 1, accanto al pole man Romain Grosjean (1.36.041) a bordo di una delle due vetture portate in pista dalla scuderia DAMS e davanti a Davide Valsecchi del team Air Asia (1.36.501) e Dani Clos della Racing Engineering (1.36.614). “Oggi è andata bene, anche se a fine turno il traffico mi ha impedito di migliorare ancora” - ha dichiarato Jules al suo rientro ai box – “La macchina si comporta molto bene e grazie alle giornate di test ho maturato una buona esperienza del tracciato. Domani sarà tutta da vedere, perché ancora non sappiamo quale sarà il comportamento delle nuove gomme Pirelli in gara”.
