Massa tests in the wet
Montmelo, 20 February – First day of testing for Felipe Massa at the Catalunya Circuit and also the first day of this pre-season test when the track was wet enough to run consistently on the new Pirelli intermediate tyres. The first half of the third day was affected by bad weather, with rain last night and then again, although just for a few minutes, shortly after nine this morning.
Felipe was thus able to get a first impression of the handling of the intermediate rubber, completing a total of 42 laps this morning, the quickest in a time of 1.35.412. The Brazilian had a couple of off-track excursions which saw him end up in the gravel, but fortunately, the Ferrari F150th Italia appears to be very tough and after both incidents, it was able to run again without losing too much time. In the final quarter of an hour, conditions were good enough for others to run dry tyres, while Felipe ended the morning doing a few practice starts: this explains the gap of over 3” between the Ferrari man and the quickest time of the day, set by Hamilton in 1.28.053.
Prove sul bagnato per Massa
Montmelò, 20 febbraio – Primo giorno di prove per Felipe Massa al Circuit de Catalunya e primo giorno in questi test di preparazione con la pista sufficientemente bagnata per girare con costanza con le nuove gomme Pirelli intermedie. La prima metà della terza giornata di questa sessione è stata caratterizzata dalle condizioni meteorologiche avverse, con pioggia caduta nella serata ieri e poi ancora, anche se per qualche minuto, poco dopo le nove di questa mattina.
Felipe ha potuto così saggiare per la prima volta il comportamento delle coperture intermedie, completando in totale 42 giri, il più veloce nel tempo 1.35.412. Il brasiliano è stato protagonista di un paio di uscite di pista che lo hanno fatto rimanere nella ghiaia ma, fortunatamente, la Ferrari F150th Italia si è dimostrata molto robusta tanto da permettergli in entrambi i casi di ritornare a girare senza perdere troppo tempo. Nell’ultimo quarto d’ora in tanti hanno iniziato ad impiegare le gomme da asciutto mentre Felipe ha chiuso la mattinata effettuando una serie di prove di partenza: si spiega così il distacco di oltre 3” del ferrarista dal miglior tempo del giorno, ottenuto da Hamilton con 1.28.053.
