Lewis Hamilton's year-long search for a new manager following his well-publicised split with his father is likely to end this month. Speaking after testing in Valencia, Hamilton said the shortlist was down to "a couple of candidates".

"Hopefully in the next couple of weeks I'll be able to let you know what's going on," he said. "But it's positive. It won't distract me from my job, and certainly things will be taken care of a lot better than when I was looking after myself."

Several newspapers have reported Simon Fuller, the brains behind Pop Idol and the manager of the Beckhams, is the favourite with IMG and Creative Artists Agency also in the frame.

Hamilton is known to be keen to "grow his brand" as he puts it, and Fuller would open many doors in the lucrative US market.

His relationship with father Anthony, which came under tremendous strain after the split, is not back on better footing and Anthony is now acting for Force India newcomer Paul di Resta. "He's obviously going to be coming to work to support Paul but he is my dad so he will naturally be up and down, but things are going really well with him," Hamilton jnr said.
