Security Measures Prepared for Red-shirt Gathering on Feb 13
The city police are preparing to deploy six companies of officers to maintain order during the planned rally by members of the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship on February 13.
Metropolitan Police Division 2 Commander Police Major General Damrongsak Kittiprapat met with Criminal Court Secretary General Krerkrit Ittarat to discuss security measures for the gathering being planned by red-shirt supporters at the Criminal Court on Ratchadapisek Road next Sunday.
The group plans to stage a rally in front of the Criminal Court to read a letter from a detained red-shirt leader detailing the red-shirt activists' defense, including their appeal, investigation, bail conditions and the use of double standards, and are urging that the judges use fairness in the legal proceedings.
Damrongsak disclosed that about 750 police officers from the Metropolitan Police Division 2 and crowd-control officers from the Crime Suppression Division will be deployed to keep peace and order inside the building.
About 150 traffic police and detectives will be deployed to direct traffic in front of the building.
The Metropolitan Police Division 2 chief asked the red-shirt supporters to conduct their activities within the boundaries of the law and make sure that they do nothing that would constitute contempt of court.
He added that the protesters will face legal action if they are found to be in contempt of court.
Damrongsak added that he was informed by the red-shirt leaders that the reading will be held at 1 P.M. and that they will then move the protest to Democracy monument at 3 P.M. traveling down Phaholyothin Road.
