Emirates has reported a 38% increase in use of its inflight mobile phone service.

- AirAsia has introduced a one-stop e-service that enables passengers to find or receive realtime information round the clock.

Called "Ask AirAsia", the service (www.airasia.com/ask) features online text enquiry, live chat and twitter Monday through Friday during 8am to 5pm.

The service is now available only in English with plans to add other languages, Malay, Chinese and Thai in the future.

- Emirates has reported a 38% increase in use of inflight mobile phone service, or some 5 million users, over the past 12 months.

Based on AeroMobile system, the service allows passengers to use their own mobile phones to make and receive calls or text messages while flying.

"People like to stay connected even at 30,000 feet," said Patrick Brannelly, its vice-president.

In 2010 the highest number of phones switched on during a single flight was 227, with up to 65% of passengers keeping their phones switched on during flight.

Emirates will soon introduce GPRS data capability allowing the use of BlackBerry type devices on some aircraft.
