The FDA looks ever further into the future
Maranello, 28 February – This is the second year for the Ferrari Driver Academy and the first of this year’s courses got underway with a three day session, although this first day was cut short because of the cold and the rain which affected the smooth running of the programme. There were two track sessions planned – one in the morning for Jules Bianchi and a second in the afternoon for Davide Rigon, both at the wheel of the F60, the car that Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro campaigned in the 2009 Formula 1 World Championship. The young Frenchman who this year is working on the development of the Scuderia Ferrari car as well as again tackling the GP2 series only did a few laps. Rigon, who is also available to Scuderia Ferrari this year, for help with developing its car, as well as working for the academy on developing the simulator, had his track debut wiped out by the weather. “A shame to do so few laps today,” said Bianchi, “although as always, I was still able to learn something new from my meeting with the engineers from Maranello, which will come in useful as I try to do my best both in GP2 and in my personal contribution to the work of the Scuderia.” Davide Rigon was a bit disappointed, as this would have been his first chance to drive a Formula 1 car on track, having spent so much time on the simulator. “But I know I’ll get another chance,” he said, “because getting that practical experience would be really useful to increase my experience which to date has only been a virtual one.”
While Jules studied the telemetry data with the engineers, to analyse the progress made, two other school pupils, Brandon Maisano and Raffaele Marciello, both tackling the Italian F3 championship, underwent a tough training session in the gym, focussing on exercises aimed at increasing resistance and coordination.
Also on this first day of the session, two young drivers, the Spaniard Victor Colom and the Brazilian Nicolas Costa, got the unique opportunity to experience the world of Ferrari, having distinguished themselves in 2010: the former in the Santander Scholarship and the latter in the Fiat Formula Futura. Both men were taking part in their first session with the Ferrari Driver Academy, undergoing physical and psycho-attitudinal tests in the run up to taking to the track at the wheel of a Formula Abarth, on Wednesday at Fiorano. Their presence confirms the Maranello school’s interest in international series and emerging talent, who through careful evaluation can get important advice to help them progress in the hope that one day they move on to a more extensive collaboration. Head of the programme, Luca Baldisserri is convinced that the Ferrari academy can have a positive effect for those taking part in the junior formulae and those series that provide a final stepping stone to Formula 1. “Apart from nine paying courses for a select number of participants, this year, the Ferrari Driver Academy will support the first ever European Formula Aci-Csai Abarth championship, followed up by two other championships in the Asia-Pacific region and South America which get underway in the autumn of 2011. Our efforts, as we go into the second year of activity for the Ferrari Driver Academy, are aimed at the evaluation and selection of youngsters with a talent for motor sport from around the world.”
La FDA guarda sempre più lontano
Maranello, 28 febbraio – Si è conclusa in anticipo sul circuito di Fiorano la prima delle tre giornate di stage con cui la Ferrari Driver Academy ha inaugurato la sua seconda stagione di vita. La pioggia ed il freddo hanno compromesso il regolare svolgimento del programma odierno, che prevedeva due sessioni di guida - una al mattino per Jules Bianchi ed una seconda nel pomeriggio per Davide Rigon, entrambi a disposizione della Scuderia Ferrari per le attività di sviluppo della monoposto - al volante della F60, la vettura con cui la Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro ha preso parte al Campionato del Mondo di Formula 1 nel 2009. Solo pochi giri all’attivo per il giovane pilota francese, quest’anno nuovamente impegnato nella GP2 Series, mentre debutto in pista sfumato per Rigon, collaboratore dell’accademia per lo sviluppo del simulatore. “È stato un peccato girare così poco” sono state le parole di Bianchi al termine della giornata “anche se le occasioni di incontro con i tecnici di Maranello mi danno sempre l’opportunità di imparare cose nuove, in vista di una stagione in cui voglio fare del mio meglio, sia nella GP2 che per quanto riguarda il mio personale contributo al lavoro della Scuderia”. Un po’ di delusione per Davide Rigon per cui quella di oggi “sarebbe stata la prima volta al volante di una vera Formula 1, dopo tanto lavoro al simulatore. Confido nella prossima opportunità, perché una prova pratica si rivelerebbe davvero utile per approfondire la mia esperienza per ora solo virtuale”.
Mentre Jules studiava i dati della telemetria e si confrontava con gli ingegneri per analizzare i propri progressi, altri due allievi della scuola - Brandon Maisano e Raffaele Marciello – quest’anno impegnati nel campionato Formula 3 Italia, si sono sottoposti ad un’intensa sessione di allenamento in palestra, caratterizzata da esercizi mirati ad accrescere resistenza e coordinazione.
Questa prima giornata di test ha inoltre offerto a due giovani piloti l’opportunità di entrare in contatto con il mondo della Ferrari. Lo spagnolo Victor Colomè ed il brasiliano Nicolas Costa, distintisi nel 2010 rispettivamente nella Santander Scholarship e nel campionato Fiat Formula Futura, hanno potuto prendere parte al primo stage della Ferrari Driver Academy, sottoponendosi a test fisici e psicoattitudinali in vista della prova in pista al volante di una Formula Abarth prevista nella giornata di mercoledì sul circuito di Fiorano. La presenza dei giovani piloti conferma l’interesse della scuola di Maranello verso serie internazionali e talenti emergenti che, attraverso una valutazione attenta, hanno modo di ricevere importanti consigli per la propria crescita, nella speranza di trasformarsi nei protagonisti di una futura collaborazione. Come confermato dal responsabile del programma, Luca Baldisserri, certo che l’accademia Ferrari possa avere un riscontro positivo sulle formule minori e su quelle propedeutiche alla Formula Uno: “Oltre ai nuovi corsi a pagamento rivolti ad un selezionato numero di partecipanti, la Ferrari Driver Academy quest’anno supporterà la prima edizione del campionato europeo Formula Aci-Csai Abarth, cui faranno seguito altri due campionati in area Asia Pacifico e Sud America, al via nell’autunno 2011. Il nostro impegno è infatti rivolto alla valorizzazione ed alla selezione di giovani talenti nell’ambito dell’automobilismo sportivo mondiale e, con questo obiettivo, affrontiamo il secondo anno di attività della Ferrari Driver Academy”.
