Nico Rosberg has said that the new Mercedes upgrades have given him more confidence as they seek to close the gap to Red Bull.
Mercedes ran a new exhaust system and bodywork in Barcelona on Wednesday, and Rosberg was pleased with the promising early signs.
"We had glimpses that showed that the full package should be a big step," Rosberg said. "I am hopeful because I know what other parts are still to come. [When we add them] then we will see the true strength of the car."
Mercedes' new exhausts exit along the side of the car, as teams seek to chase the pace-setting Red Bull design. Ferrari debuted a similar system to Red Bull in Barcelona this week, and now Williams technical director Sam Michael says the team are set to follow suit.
"We have played with all the different variations in CFD," Michael told Auto Motor und Sport. "The most efficient solution is Red Bull's."
Teams are closely analysing the Red Bull designs, as Peter Sauber confirmed there is currently "no match" for the reigning constructors champions' RB7.
