Japanese Group in Chiang Mai Gather Donations for Home Country

Japanese people in Chiang Mai Province are campaigning to raise donations for earthquake and tsunami victims back in their home country of Japan.
A group of Japanese senior citizens living in Chiang Mai, who are part of the 'Chiang Mai Longstay Life Club,' have organized an event to raise donations for quake-victims in Japan.
The function is expected to raise donations from various people from all walks of life in Chiang Mai Province.
The club's chairman, Kunitada Chiji said donation boxes are now being placed at the headquarters of the club, located at a condominium.
All of the donated money will be added to donations made by Thai people and forwarded to Japan as soon as possible.
The club will also post a clip on Youtube offering victims of the tsunami-devastation moral support and to raise further funds.
The 'Chiang Mai Longstay Life Club' was founded in 2002 and now has 170 members. Most of them are people over 55 years old, who live in the condominium or on the outskirts of the province.
Meanwhile, in the eastern province of Chonburi Province, Japanese people said they are grateful for Thailand's help extended to assist Japanese people affected by the recent disasters.
Most of the Japanese members of the Chonburi group are the wives of Japanese businesspeople, who are ex-pat management in car-related businesses in local industrial estates.
