MEZZO-SOPRANO KATHERINE JENKINS MAKES HER DEBUT CONCERTS IN BANGKOK

March 22 - 23, 2011

At the Thailand Cultural Centre, Main Hall

The world’s premiere ambassador bringing classical music to a mainstream audience, mezzo-soprano Katherine Jenkins makes her debut concerts in Bangkok on 22 and 23 March at the Thailand Cultural Centre. Quickly becoming a superstar whilst still in her twenties, Katherine Jenkins is a phenomenon in the world of show business.

From her modest start as a teenage chorister in her church choir to international superstar diva took only a few years. Following her studies at London’s Royal Academy of Music, in between singing engagements she worked as a teacher, a tour guide and a model. When recording company Universal Classics invited her to audition she was awarded the most lucrative contract in British recording history — a six-album deal reportedly worth more than US$1.5 million. The recordings became instant hits, selling millions of copies. At one time her recordings occupied the top four positions in the British Crossover Charts. Her third album, Living a Dream, held the No. 1 spot for almost one year and reached No. 4 in the Pop Charts.

In 2008, Katherine Jenkins signed the biggest classical recording deal in history — reportedly worth US$10 million — when she agreed to make five albums for Warner Music. The first, Believe, was produced by legendary composer/performer and impresario, David Foster. To date, she has sold well over four million CDs worldwide.

One of Britain’s best-loved artistes, Katherine Jenkins was hailed by Hello Magazine as the “golden voice of classical music.” In addition to recordings, she has a burgeoning concert career that has seen her give hugely successful performances in various parts of the world with superstar tenors Placido Domingo, Andrea Bocelli and Juan Diego Florez. Until recently she also joined superstar pianist Lang Lang as a brand ambassador for the Montblanc luxury goods label.

Katherine Jenkins concert incorporates a mixture of much-loved classical highlights including “Una voce poco fa” from Rossini’s opera The Barber of Seville and the “Habanera” from Bizet’s Carmen, to popular hits “Love never dies” from Phantom of the Opera, “I Believe”, “I will always love you”, “Bring me to Life”, “Till There Was You”, “La Vie en Rose”, “Angle”, “Par La Piu Piano” from the “Godfather”, and many more. She will be accompanied by the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra and conductor Anthony Inglis.
