After more than ten years of ending production for its predecessor, Volkswagen has launched the next generation Beetle at Shanghai Auto Show.
Volkswagen Beetle entered the XXI century. Volkswagen new beetle came back after a long absence, and his successor’s “New Beetle” has much to recover in the mini segment. More specifically, the VW Beetle is fighting with many competitors in this segment, mostly with experienced European manufacturers in the field. The debut took place at the Shanghai Auto Show, and the new Volkswagen Beetle will be presented at New York Auto Show, several days later. The phrase “New“ was removed from the model’s name, obviously being the fact that we speak of a new generation of the retro shaped car of the car manufacturer from Wolfsburg.
Among the features of the new Volkswagen Beetle are dramatically improved handling, interior with quality materials and exquisite appearance. Famous inflated wings found their place also on the new generation of the Beetle, while the roof was flattened to optimize and improve air drag resistance. External appearance exudes power and elegance, the model no longer being cheap looking or too cute. Top versions get bi-xenon lamp units, 19-inch alloy wheels and an exhaust system with two pipes.
The top engine for the brand new Volkswagen Beetle is a 2.0-liter TDI that develops 200 hp and 280 Nm. Power is delivered to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox. Optionally, customers can opt for a six-speed DSG transmission and XDS electronic differential. Customers who prefer diesel units can choose a 2.0-liter TDI, which offers 140 hp and maximum torque of 320 Nm. The range of engines could be something more colorful, but the Germans had presented information about the two units above.
