Engines fire up in Valencia for the European Ferrari Challenge
Valencia, 6 May – The second round of the European series of the Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli got underway today at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, at Cheste, Valencia, with drivers tackling the first free practice session to get to grips with the track, prior to Saturday’s qualifying and the two races on Sunday.
Sunday is the highlight of the weekend with those running the 458 Challenge car in both categories and the others driving the F430 Challenge in just the Trofeo Pirelli tackling two joint races with separate classifications, starting at 9.30 and 14.00.
The fastest time of the day was set by the winner of the first two racers in Monza, the European classification leader, Alexey Vasiliev in the Ferrari Moscow car with a lap in 1.38.809. Of those competing in the Coppa Shell, Formula Automobile’s Johnny Laursen was quickest in 1.40.353. On top of the time sheet for the F430 Challenge runners was Warm Up’s Gerald Grohmann, who posted a best time of 1.46.878.
