A podium for Bianchi in Istanbul. Rigon tenth

Istanbul, 7 May – Jules Bianchi secured his first podium finish of the season in the opening round of the GP2 Series, taking place at the Istanbul circuit, alongside the fourth round of the Formula 1 World Championship. The French driver finished third at the end of an exciting race, which began with a scary accident for Fabio Leimer (Rapax,) the young Swiss driver fortunately emerging unscathed. In his Lotus Art car, Bianchi pulled off a passing move on lap 25 to take third off Giedo van der Garde (Barwa Addax Team.) The race was won by Romain Grosjean (DAMS) with Sam Bird (Sport International) second. Davide Rigon, who along with Bianchi works on car development for the Maranello based Scuderia Ferrari, missed out on points today: at the wheel of his Scuderia Coloni entered car, the Italian finished tenth, making up seven places from his grid position.

The second race of the weekend takes place tomorrow at 11.35 local time.
