Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 on the podium at Portimao
Portimao, 8 May – Francesco Castellacci and Federico Leo took a deserved second place at the wheel of the AF Corse Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 No.50 in today’s Race 2 of the European FIA GT3 championship at Portugal’s Autodromo Internacional do Algarve. The car was unable to take part in the first race on Saturday after contact with a rival car in the second qualifying session. But it still managed to put the winning Audi R8 LMS of Enzo Ide and Greg Franchi (Belgian Audi Club Team) under serious pressure en route to its first podium of the season. Third place went to the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG of Brice Bosi and Dominik Baumann (Heico Motorsport) thanks to a pass on the Lamborghini Reiter of Nikolaus Mayr-Melnhof two laps from the end. The MTECH 458 Italia GT3 driven by Duncan Cameron-Matthew Griffin took 12th place after a fine recovery from 25th place on the grid.
The second round of the European series of the FIA GT3 championship will take place on the weekend of June 5 at Silverstone.
