Geneva 2012: Mini Roadster

Mini will unveil the new Roadster, the brother with a folding roof of the current Coupe in the spring of next year at the Geneva Motor Show 2012.

After the public has already “digested” the new Mini Coupe, all attention goes to the athlete’s brother with a folding roof. Named just as simple, Mini Roadster is expected on the auto market in the first half of next year, scheduled to debut live at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

Most likely, Mini Roadster will have the same configuration of the chassis and the same range of petrol or diesel engines. Just like Mini Coupe, Mini Roadster will have a John Cooper Works performance version, capable of delivering 211 horsepower at 6000 rpm.

For safety reasons, engineers will install a set of reinforcing bars to protect passengers in case of a rollover accident . The cloth roof is manually operated, not electrically, as would some customers expect. Even so, the price for Mini Roadster will be a pretty steep one, over the price for Mini Coupe, which will remain within range in order to satisfy a different class of customers, much less demanding.
