FDA – Marciello takes his first Italian F3 win

Maranello, 5 June – Raffaele Marciello, the Ferrari Driver Academy youngster, took a fantastic win in Race 2 of the Italian Formula 3 series at Misano Adriatico today, his first victory in the category. Thanks to a perfect start, the Team Prema driver went into a lead that he managed to keep all the way to the chequered flag, fending off continuous attacks from Eddie Cheever (Lucidi Motors) who came home second, just eight tenths down. The other Ferrari Driver Academy student, Brandon Maisano, had a difficult day finishing eighth, having started ninth, thus failing to match his result in the opening round at Franciacorta. Head of the FDA, Luca Baldisserri was pleased with Marciello’s win. “Raffaele’s win turned round a weekend that had already got off to a bad start in qualifying for the Ferrari Driver Academy. He drove an intelligent race, fighting off Cheever and looking after his tyres right to the end of the race. This is a very important win in terms of his professional career and it also makes him the youngest ever winner in the Formula 3 Championship. It’s just a shame that Brandon’s race did not go so well, affected by starting from ninth on the grid.”

The next round of the Italian Formula 3 Championship takes place at Imola over the weekend of 17 July.
