Bahrain Grand Prix, The other reason not to go
Over the past few weeks we have seen many different reasons why Formula 1 should or should not head to Bahrain for a Grand Prix in 2011. On Friday 3rd of June we found out the race would take place 30th of October. The main reason for the yes or no to this race is the civil unrest in the country but I wish to discuss what was said about it affecting the holiday of the teams staff.
Ross Braun was quoted in saying "It is getting too much," "Our guys have been working since January, we don't have test teams anymore, so the same guys have been working since January and we are asking them to work into December and that means there is no time for a holiday before Christmas and that would mean getting straight back in to it in January."
For me as a Formula 1 fan I sit here and wish I worked for one of these teams, Being an overweight guy who did not take on further education means that I could not take on some of the highly skilled or technical jobs, but to actually say that I worked in some way shape or form for one of these company’s would be a dream come true, and I believe that if I was working for these teams I would relish the opportunity to head to another fantastic place on this planet.
In a call centre environment I get four weeks of holidays a year and if I was offered a travelling job within the Formula 1 circus I would not mind that being dropped to three weeks and taking it all at once mid December.
I don’t care which role I would play in one of these teams, I could carry boxes, I could be an errand boy or the assistant to an assistant but for the lifestyle that these guys have I would think the hard work would be worth it. I wish I could be sat sending tweets regarding my teams progress from the tracks all around the world, hell I could be a social media guru for a team, run their Facebook, Twitter and even blog about the experience along the way. I would do this alongside doing menial tasks, even if I was the guy that had to go get a certain type of coffee for Adrian Newey I would be the first to volunteer.
All in all whether its the civil unrest or a bit of extra hard work why not give the people of Bahrain something they can enjoy, there have not been reports of actual trouble for a while, let’s not get all up in a tangle, let’s wait and see what happens and if it does lets enjoy it.
