Chong and Wyatt fly in qualifying for the Ferrari Challenge APAC

Shanghai, 23 July - The Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli APAC is back in action at the Shanghai circuit as part of the Ferrari Racing Days event that also features non-competitive programmes run by the Corse Clienti department and a variety of activities aimed at fans of the world of Ferrari. Twenty three cars tackled two qualifying sessions today to decide the grids for tomorrow’s two races. In both of them, Singapore’s Ringo Chong will start from pole, while of those competing in the Coppa Shell, the best time was set by Australia’s Steve Wyatt.

The first qualifying session was run in very high temperatures, with Ringo Chong setting the fastest time of 2.14.189, to beat fellow Trofeo Pirelli runners China’s Anthony Liu (2.15.359) and from Hong Kong, Eric Kwong (2.15.378.) Of the gentleman drivers in the Coppa Shell, Steve Wyatt took the pole with a lap in 2.17.709, considerably quicker than second placed Gregory Teo from Singapore who did a 2.18.201, followed by Japan’s Francis Hideki Onda (2.18.818.)

Ringo Chong again took pole in the second session, improving on his earlier performance with a lap in 2.14.176. Next up was Anthony Liu (2.14.685) followed by Hong Kong’s Byron Tong (2.15.491) In the Coppa Shell, Steve Wyatt was again fastest in 2.17.435, beating South Korea’s Siwon Ryu (2.17.776) and Gregory Teo (2.18.034.) Tomorrow’s races will feature a guest of honour on the grid, as Scuderia Ferrari’s Giancarlo Fisichella will be taking part.

Sunday’s programme features the two races at 10.20 and 14.35 local time.
