FROM DREAM TO REALITY

The extraordinary spectacle organised for the opening of the Ferrari World theme park in Abu Dhabi proved to us that the Thousand and One Nights is no legend. Check out the action and get ready for a truly unique experience

The opening ceremony of what has become one of the most truly spectacular entertainment attractions in the Emirates was an unforgettable experience. It also skilfully blended two cultures: that of the most deep-rooted traditions of Abu Dhabi, with its folk music and pearl divers, and the one represented by the long red thread of Ferrari’s own dazzling history.

Guests were treated to a sumptuous visual spectacle. Acrobats leapt between the 30-metre-high vaults of the Park’s epic structure, there were projections on multidimensional screens, and a full orchestra played, only to be joined at the evening’s climax by a superb soprano who sang some of Italy’s greatest operatic arias. The Park’s inauguration was witnessed by the Crown Prince, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and by many dignitaries, including members of the Royal Family. Company Chairman Luca di Montezemolo, who thanked all those who helped transform what must have initially seemed a dream into a reality, led the Ferrari deputation. Also present were Piero Ferrari, the Vice-President and son of the founder, the Company’s Executive Committee, and the two current Formula One drivers, Felipe Massa and Fernando Alonso. Representing the Italian State at the ceremony were Foreign Minister Franco Frattini and the Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, Giorgio Starace.

Of an evening packed with highlights, particularly engaging was the story of “a dream fulfilled” that was celebrated in the show as if seen through the eyes of the central protagonist, a child, who becomes the meeting point of the two worlds that have become a single reality with the creation of the Park. The host was Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh, Chairman of Aldar, the company that has been able to create such a significant work from nothing in just four years.
