Liuzzi shows competitiveness and solidarity in Madrid

It’s been a busy week for Hispania Racing driver Vitantonio Liuzzi who, after the Grand Prix of Europe, has stopped over in Madrid to compete in the Campofrío Stadium Race and represent the team in different activities, such as the trip this morning to the Parque Warner alongside a group of twelve foster children from the Community of Madrid.
The Campofrío Stadium Race took place last night at the Vicente Calderón Stadium in Madrid. Liuzzi participated in this unique spectacle alongside other high profile drivers ranging from Formula 1 teammates to rally or raid drivers. The Hispania Racing driver finished in third place after being knocked out in the semifinals by Spanish rally driver, Dani Sordo, who would go on to claim victory after beating compatriot, Jaime Alguersuari, in an enthralling final.
Given the characteristics of the track, a good show was guaranteed. The lawn of the Vicente Calderón field made way for asphalt and the circuit looked as immaculate as the one we encountered in Valencia a week ago; the inside of the stadium was converted into boxes and a bridge with its corresponding tunnel figured in the middle of the pitch.
All the competitors raced on equal terms with identical cars and tyres. There were no pit stops, but we saw some fantastic one on one action.
The night left us some very entertaining moments since the track was very narrow and slippery, so drivers were not only fighting for the win but to not end up against the barriers. Twelve of motorsport’s finest drivers started off the night aiming for the Campofrío Stadium Race trophy but after various knockout races it would be Dani Sordo who ended up on top.
Making the most of his visit to Madrid, Hispania Racing’s Italian driver accompanied twelve foster children, between the ages of seven and ten, to the Parque Warner today in the Spanish capital.
They all enjoyed the rides at the theme park and had the pleasure of meeting the likes of Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck and Road Runner and also the crew in charge of the “Police Academy” show. To cap off the day, Tonio guided the kids around the new Flintstone’s attraction, the Yabba-Dabba-Doo driving school, where all the kids enjoyed driving around the safe-driving circuit in a “tree trunk car”, and found a stellar teacher and role model in Tonio.
