Q&A with Paul Di Resta

“We got through all the tasks that we set out to do”

Force India enjoyed a strong first day in Budapest and it ended with Paul Di Resta and Adrian Sutil solidly in the top 10 in the afternoon’s FP2 session in ninth and 10th places. We asked Paul about his day at the Hungaroring.

Paul, are you happy with the way things went today?
“It was a reasonable day and we got through all the tasks that we set out to do. It’s a bit early to say much on a Friday, but we’ve got through all our objectives. We did long runs on both compounds of tyres and gathered some valuable data to carry into tomorrow. We’ve definitely got areas where we need to improve.”

Do you like this track?
“Again that would be a bit early to say. It’s quite a difficult place because you don’t really get much time to relax here. It’s fairly short. Long runs are difficult. You can make a big difference by just getting into a good rhythm, so I think that’s important.”

But do you enjoy a circuit that is tight and very technical?
“I don’t mind it. There are parts of tracks that are like that and I’m fairly open to it. You like big, open bits, but at the same time, you like to have some tight and twisty parts.”

It’s a good start to the weekend for both you and the team. Is the key now to carry that momentum through the weekend, as Adrian did in Germany?
“Yes. Adrian managed to get a weekend free of everything, whereas we haven’t been quite as fortunate as that. The last three events have been totally out of my control. All I can do is keep my head down, keep giving my all, and hope that my luck will change in the second half of the year.“
