Di Resta is the cousin of Indy Car racer Dario Franchitti
Force India driver Paul di Resta says his recent run of bad luck is "a joke".
The Scot was hit from behind by Nick Heidfeld on the opening lap at the German Grand Prix on Sunday before recovering to finish 13th.
He also qualified sixth for the British Grand Prix, but a pit-crew blunder and then being hit by Sebastien Buemi wrecked his hopes of a points finish.
"With all the things that have happened, it's been a joke. I'm hoping things will turn," said Di Resta.
The 25-year-old, in his debut season in Formula 1, has out-qualified team-mate Adrian Sutil at seven of the 10 races this year but his best finish is 10th in both Australia and Malaysia.
"When things do turn round I'm sure it will be better and then I'll get some momentum," added Di Resta, who has gone eight races without scoring a point.
"I'm not really disappointed about the year because I've had some big highs, and there are still plenty of races to go and plenty of points up for grabs.
"More importantly we are improving and now starting to fight the teams in front of us in the constructors' championship, and that's a good step given our performance in the last few races."
