STILL - VERY MUCH - IN THE HUNT

on Jul 24, 2011

Mark Webber continued to enjoy great form in Germany with another podium this afternoon – that’s his third trophy in six seasons for Red Bull Racing at the Nurgburgring.

Mark was clearly disappointed not to have won for a second time here, but the points he and Sebastian secured mean that we remain in front in both championships.

Around a classic racing circuit, there was some classic wheel-to-wheel racing; not just at the front, but all the way through the pack it was close, too close for some, with some great driving.

The whole field was pushing hard, and while Vettel featured in the initial fight at the front, a spin on Lap 10 meant he didn’t lose position, but he did lose touch with the battle for podium places.

Once again the pitstops, tyres and strategy were integral to the race outcome: the top three were undercutting each other at every opportunity and Sebastian’s final placing was down to a slick stop from our pit crew on the penultimate lap. Having watched Massa‘s taillight for much of the latter part of the race, the stop was his chance to move up to fourth and he took it.

For Christian the result wasn’t the one we were looking for from pole and P3 on the grid, but third and fourth is another podium, another trophy and – perhaps most importantly – it’s another 27 championship points split between Mark and Sebastian.

It’s a quick turnaround as we move east to Budapest and the Hungaroring, scene of a Webber victory last year in our 100th grand prix, and it's the final race before the summer break.
