Luiz Razia, who is currently a test driver for Lotus, said his bid to get an F1 seat next season could be thwarted by his struggle to attract sponsors.
Razia, 22, joined Lotus after signing for Tony Fernandes' GP Series outfit Team AirAsia. At the moment his goal is to try to get a seat for his home Brazilian Grand Prix at the end of the season and then to use that as a platform for next year.
"We're working to get sponsors for next year and it could be a way to start early," he told Globo Esporte. "It's a situation that also involves other factors. The initial conversation has been going on since June. We are working for 2012, but why not start in Brazil? We are in negotiations.'
"It's very difficult for me; no one knows who Luiz Razia is. Over the years I've been trying to build my career. There are 20 Brazilian drivers out there and not everyone has a sponsor. If we can't change that then few Brazilians are going to be racing in the future."
