Frankfurt 2011 Live: Ferrari 458 Spider and Maserati Kubang – the Italian Pearls


Fiat Group could not come without its elite section at Frankfurt Motor Show 2011: Ferrari, Maserati and Abarth. If at the Maranello stand the 458 Spider was not a surprise, Maserati has captured the public with its first SUV: Kubang.


Fiat Group wished to display an impressive deployment for the brands “under its umbrella”. That’s why they came up with a lot of premiers and many real surprises to the public. As mentioned, the whole attention was gathered by the elite group Ferrari, Maserati and Abarth.
















If you wanted to see Ferrari or Maserati you had a long wait coming to an end as the journalists were very curious to see up close the new Ferrari 458 Italy and the first SUV in the history of Maserati: Kubang. On the other hand, the Abarth stand was also stepped many curious, attracted by the performance versions of Fiat models. Ferrari 458 Italia Spyder

The Ferrari 458 Spider is just over 50 kg (110 pounds) heavier than the standard, totaling about 1430 kg (3152 pounds) with sports seats and forged wheels. Ferrari said that the power/weight ratio is now 2.51 kg (5.53 pounds) per horsepower, and the weight distribution between bridges is 42/58 front/rear.

Italy 458 Spider‘s windscreen is effective up to 200 km/h, after which passengers are likely to be disturbed by the generated airflow. Ferrari 458 Italia Spyder ‘s chassis promises to be as rigid whether the driver will be running with the top down or not.

Maserati Kubang


Next we have the Maserati Kubang. While some were rubbing their hands with joy at the idea of a Maserati SUV, others blamed the fact that Italians sell their soul for profit. Despite the different opinions of the fans, Maserati decided to write a brand new important page in their history at IAA 2011.

Therefore, the Italian stand hosted the world premiere of Maserati Kubang SUV, a contemporary reinterpretation of the concept with the same name, introduced eight years ago. To justify mass production, Kubang architecture was developed on the Jeep Grand Cherokee architecture, taking over much of its dimensions.

Under the bonnet we will find two familiar engines for the public: a 4.7-liter V8 gasoline engine and a 3.0-liter diesel. This one should be mostly known by the Fiat-Chrysler alliance fans. Both units will be assisted by an automatic transmission with eight reports.

Abarth at IAA


Abarth presented at Frankfurt Motor Show 500 Cabrio Italia, Punto SuperSport, 696 Competizione and its new motto.

Abarth came up with its list of premieres at Frankfurt Auto Show. The mark specialized in modifying Fiat models brings its Italia version for the Abarth 500 Cabrio, Abarth SuperSport 695 Competizione and Abarth Punto SuperSport. With these premiers, Abarth will renew the slogan in Frankfurt, the new brand motto will be “Abarth, performance since 1949″. Through the new motto, Abarth wants to emphasize the scorpion-brand’s history, and its success in competition and on the road. From 2008 until now, Abarth has sold 36,000 units and 9,000 performance kits.
