Fernando Alonso finished fourth in Free2 for the Korean Grand Prix, setting a time of 1:52.774. The heavy rain which fell during Free1 prevented the Spaniard from setting a lap time.
Fernando Alonso finished the second session of free practice for the Korean Grand Prix in fourth place. In Free1 the Spaniard was unable to set a time because of the heavy rain lashing down on Yeongam. Given that both qualifying and the race will take place in dry conditions, Ferrari preferred to hold their fire until Free2, when their driver was able to set a time of 1:52.774.
During this practice session, the Scuderia's work focused on the front wing of the F150° Italia. This did not involve the use of flow-viz, the compound which they typically employ during free practice.
Alonso: "We will have to improvise a little"
Fernando Alonso indicated that the few laps he was able to complete because of the rain will force him to "improvise a little" both in the qualifying session on Saturday and in Sunday's race.
"It was a fairly difficult Friday because of the weather, which made it impossible to draw any useful conclusions with a view to the rest of the weekend," said the Spanish two-time world champion, who is fighting for the runners-up spot.
"When you think how unlikely it is that it will rain again on Saturday and Sunday, you realise that today really had very little of use to offer," added the Spaniard, who did not set any times during the morning, and was fourth in the afternoon.
For Alonso "the goal is still to try to do things as best we can". "We have brought a new front wing here which we need to try out, since today's conditions, which were good for McLaren, were not ideal for us to evaluate it," he indicated.
"And we do not know how the tyres will really perform, and so we will have to improvise a little both in the qualifying session tomorrow and in the race on Sunday," concluded the former champion.

Fernando Alonso ha sido cuarto en los Libres2 del GP de Corea con un crono de 1:52.774. La fuerte lluvia que se ha registrado en los Libres1 ha impedido al asturiano marcar un crono.
Fernando Alonso ha terminado cuarto en la segunda sesión de entrenamientos libres del Gran Premio de Corea. En los Libres1 el asturiano no ha marcado tiempo debido a la fuerte lluvia que ha azotado Yeongam. Teniendo en cuenta que tanto la clasificación como la carrera serán en seco, en Ferrari han preferido reservarse para los Libres2, en los que el piloto sí ha marcado un crono de 1:52.774.
En estos entrenamientos, el trabajo de la Scuderia se ha centrado en el alerón delantero del F150º Italia. Para ello, no han hecho uso de la parafina, compuesto que sí suele utilizar habitualmente en los libres.
Alonso: "Tendremos que improvisar un poco"
Fernando Alonso ha señalado que las pocas vueltas que ha podido dar a causa de la lluvia le obligará a "improvisar un poco" tanto en la sesión de clasificación del sábado como en la carrera del domingo.
"Ha sido un viernes bastante complicado por culpa del tiempo, que ha hecho imposible sacar conclusiones útiles con vistas al resto del fin de semana", dijo el bicampeón español, que pugna por el subcampeonato.
"Cuando piensas que hay muy pocas probabilidades de que el sábado y el domingo vuelva a llover te das cuenta de que la jornada de hoy apenas tiene una algo útil que ofrecer", agregó el asturiano, que no marcó tiempo alguno por la mañana y fue cuarto por la tarde.
Para Alonso "el objetivo sigue siendo tratar de hacerlo lo mejor posible". "Aquí traemos un nuevo alerón delantero que tenemos que probar, ya que las condiciones de hoy, que sí han sido buenas para McLaren, no eran las idóneas para nosotros para evaluarlo", señaló.
"Además, no sabemos cómo se comportan realmente los neumáticos, así que tendremos que improvisar un poco tanto en la sesión de clasificación de mañana como en la carrera del domingo", concluyó el bicampeón español.
