ASK THE GP NATION: JAPAN

03 OCTOBER 2011

As @F1_TYRES and @Colmlawlessf1 say, “Now bring on Suzuka, the best of the best!!!”

Next up, it’s time for what @Colmlawlessf1 describes as “the best of the best!”Suzuka, Japan and the start of two consecutive weeks of exhilarating F1 racing are on their way.

Say Suzuka and the first thing that springs to most of your minds is its layout and famous corners: “the Esses, the Spoon Curve and 130R” as @rippingsilk says. But let’s take it section by section. @hopkinsonf1 describes the Esses as “especially special” and for @rippingsilk and @FSalzberg it’s also an extraordinary part of the track. (But as @FSalzberg also points out, “all corners at Suzuka are great!”). And then there’s the Spoon curve, “really challenging” says @imVicka, and 130R, where @EnoTheWonderdog loves “watching the cars through there – it’s huge!”

Another unique feature of the track which some of you like @LHCollision or @FSalzberg point out is its figure-of-eight layout. “We all have scalextric figure of 8 tracks as kids”, adds @DarthCudd, “but Suzuka is the only Formula One track that comes close!” We hope this answers @TheCrazyCaptain’s question as to whether there is a Grand Prix in Japan…

But as @JayHarwwod says, Suzuka is “something different” and @Colmlawlessf1 believes it is “an epic circuit” and for @H_Marion it’s “the best track ever.” Maybe this is because, as @Lorenzo_Aprile states, “Suzuka breathes F1 history”. Japan can carry on making history because, as @fan_peiyi or @Vix_Vettel point out, “we can live the possible crowning of the 2011 World Champion!”

@LHCollision tell us: Suzuka is all about “steady throttle position, great combination of corners, each sector is different, history and figure of 8”. That’s more than enough and @MarussiaVirgin is looking forward to joining our Reserve Driver @SakonYamamoto at his home venue and one of our favourite Grands Prix!

Away from the track there is also a lot to experience. As @Travelf1 suggests, don’t forget the “Sushi!”@Tomokosawamu invites us to visit Kyoto – he says “it’s a fantastic place and will only take you 2 hours from Suzuka.” Thank you. This will be @mlracing’s second time in Japan and recommends Hiroshima and Osaka as well as asking @realtimoglock and @thereal_JDA to wave at him “between turns 2 and 3”. Look out for them!

But if Japan is too far flung a destination for you, you can always do as @maygobabe suggests and bring Japan to you: “the closest experience I’ve had is sushi… whilst watching the Japanese GP!” The only thing is that you will have to get up early, but that doesn’t have to be a problem – ask @JackHammer92, who really looks forward to that “as nobody disturbs me”.

So now you know - Formula One, Esses, Spoons, 130R and Sushi… a combination that just works.
