Paul Di Resta: “I’m reasonably happy with the balance”

Friday ,11 November 2011

Friday was a good day for Sahara Force India as Adrian Sutil and Paul Di Resta finished FP2 in eight and ninth positions, having been seventh and ninth respectively in the first session. The team had a lot of testing to do today, on top of the usual race preparations, and everything went to plan. We asked Paul for his thoughts on progress

You did the test here last year – did that give you a head start compared to tracks you hadn’t been on?

“Yes, I did an afternoon and a morning. It gives you a bit of an idea.”

How has your day gone?

“It was quite a difficult day to start with, just running through various test items we wanted to get through. And then slowly but surely we got on top of it. At the end of the day I’m reasonably happy with the balance. Hopefully we can improve a bit overnight.”

All the teams had an extra Pirelli tyre set to try. Does that confuse the picture a bit?

“No, I think it was quite a good thing today. I think it helped. You saw more cars running, and I think it got people out and going. It was very close to the option soft tyre anyway.”

Do you like the circuit?

“I don’t think it’s a bad track. It’s quite technical in places and the cars bounce across kerbs quite a bit more than normal. It’s improving and it will be different again tomorrow afternoon as well.

Obviously the aim of the team is to stay ahead of Sauber and Toro Rosso. Any feeling on where you are?

“You can’t take too much out of a Friday – and again, it’s quite close.”
